Alexis Jane Redmond MBE

Alexis is a Chartered Accountant and worked for many years in the accounting profession in London, Manchester and Liverpool before joining Mersey Television as Chief Executive, growing the business to become the UK’s largest independent drama production company, best known for the highly successful long-running television series Brookside, Hollyoaks and Grange Hill.

Alongside this she held many Non-Executive, Governor and Trustee positions including Riverside Housing Association, Liverpool John Moores University, National Museums Liverpool, St George’s Hall Trust, Alder Hey Hospital NHS Children’s Charitable Trust and St Luke’s (Cheshire) Hospice.

In 2005 she oversaw the sale of Mersey Television together with her husband Phil Redmond, and now continues to concentrate on charitable and public service work.  She was born in South Wales and has lived in Cheshire for the last 30 years, enjoying protecting and developing the only Registered Grade II garden in Cheshire at her home in Willington, and through this supporting the NGS, RHS and Perennial: The Royal Gardeners’ Benevolent Society.

In 2003 she was made a Fellow of Liverpool John Moores University, is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and in 2011 was awarded her MBE for services to the community.

As a supporter of culture and the arts, throughout her year as High Sheriff, she will be focusing on Cheshire’s creativity and spirit of community. There is growing recognition of the value of early intervention in mental and social care through social prescribing; engaging people in cultural and local activity as a way of combating loneliness and isolation, and helping to prevent the progression into worsening health and long-term conditions.

Whether this is achieved through recognising our public and blue light services, individual achievement, personal volunteering or corporate and charitable endeavour, these efforts will be closely aligned to supporting the Cheshire Community Foundation and Cheshire Crimebeat and their many innovative and worthwhile projects.
